We are certified organic farmer, our organic certification is under RSOCA.
In the our farm the cultivation of sesame crops takes place after the first monsoon, known as “Halot” in the local Rajasthani language. The sesame seeds are carefully preserved using traditional farming methods, such as storing them in ashes and neem leaves before they are utilized. After approximately 5 to 7 days, these seeds sprout and transform into small plants measuring around 15-20 cm, after that we score out the weed that grows along the main crop.
By the second week of September, the semi-grown sesame crops begin to adorn the undulating fields with vibrant purple flowers. Towards the end of October, the crops reach maturity. The harvesting process commences slightly before full growth is achieved to prevent the dry seeds and flowers from falling off.
At our farm sesame seeds are meticulously cleaned by hand and then dried in the sun for approximately 4 to 5 hours. This ensures that they are thoroughly dried and ready to produce sesame oil. The white sesame seeds are placed in a wooden Kohlu Ghani (oil mill) and ground slowly, maintaining a low RPM. This controlled grinding process keeps the material’s temperature at a maximum of 40 °C. If the temperature exceeds this limit, it can be detected by touch. In such cases, the oil-making process is halted to preserve the integrity and nutritional value of the black sesame oil. Once the oil is extracted from the seeds it is taken to next step where the oil is kept stable for some hours so the particles settle at the bottom and the oil captures the upper layer. After this is done, oil is filled directly in the glass bottles without any filtration so that the pure oil can be manufactured. In this way, the natural goodness and nutrients of the oil is retained.
The consumption of sesame offers numerous health benefits:
